Climate change and Humanity

The world has changed in terms of climate. Growing up as a child in Delta State of Nigeria, on this special day of Good Friday in which, Christians set aside to recall the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ, between 12 and 3pm the weather will change. Most times, throughout the Good Friday, it will be a Misty atmospheric condition.

A flash back to the Christmas seasons also shows the same thing. Growing up as a little child, most December period that is characterized as dry season, filled with sunny weather, dust and heat at night, to the surprise and relieve of most people, a miraculous rain may fall December first, mid-December and on the deal day which is 25th.

The time has come for the Giant of Africa to wake up and take the call to mitigate those drivers of climate change, while planning on how best to transit into a green and Sustainable Economy. The world as large, the advanced capitalist countries of Europe and other non-Europeans to swing into action by redeeming whatever pledges they have made towards curtailing the pace of activities fueling climate change and global warming.

At the local level, the citizens are not left out. We should be conscious of our food consumption and ensure that they are derived through a climate friendly sources. Afforestation, forest security and other such local measures should be implemented.

Note: Nature has never changed. Rather, the man did. Our unregulated activities thousands of years ago are the major drivers of climate change and global warming. If we all continue this same way, then it is likely that we all will drink like Emperor Nero while life on Earth will go into Oblivion.
